Lesser-known Bali Pass journey is the trail to cross the milepost between the Yamuna and its main influential Tons swash. Bali pass at 16000 ft connects the Ruinsara – Har Ki Dun area with Yamunotri valley This bone is a moderate yet a coming position tree. However, Rupin Pass or Goecha La also is the coming step forward, If you have formerly been to moderate journeys like Roopkund.
Bali Pass trek route is a fairly shorter duration journey which requires walking of lower than 60 Km trail. Although the pass itself at 16000 ft offers a variety of rudiments and associated challenges. The journey can be resolved into two portions.
Originally the lovely and gentle walk along the swash vale to a beautiful shallow lake called Ruinsara Tal at the base of Mt. Swargarohini. Originally from Taluka, you’ll follow the traditional route to Har Ki Dun up to Seema, following Tamosa/ Har Ki Dun Nala. Then we keep going along the vale to enter into Ruinsara Nala couloir and vale.
The trail ahead of Odari produces the challenge and experience of walking on a moraine crest and boulder, and eventually on the glacier to the snow/ ice set Bali pass. We’ll set up the base camp on moraine/ snow before the final drive to the pass.
The last stretch to the pass is relatively steep and can be tiring enough. The views from the pass include magnificent views of the Swargarohini group of peaks, Bandarpunch, Kalanag (Black peak), and the host of peaks to the east of Gangotri denes.
The descent from the past is tricky and you need to negotiate either a steep gemstone section on snow or take the sharp crest and cut rather. Prostrating the descent from the pass, you have to cross a boulder region and also you’re on meadows of the upper Dhamni area.
Surprise doesn’t stop then as the meadows finish suddenly and also you have to precisely handle the steep lawn pitch to eventually into the treeline. At the end of the journey, you reach Yamunotri. In a nutshell, during this trial, we follow the main influence of the Yamuna, the Tons swash to its origin, and also descent following the main Yamuna swash.
Why is Bali Pass a Moderate trek?
Bali Pass journey has a shorter trail length around 60 Km and hence of shorter duration compared to the “ Delicate” grade treks that we classify as. It doesn’t bear sustained walking on moraine debris or glaciers or the challenge of acclimatization difficulties.
In spite of not being a Delicate journey, this shouldn’t be compared with popular “ Moderate” grade treks like Roopkund, Rupin Pass, Hampta Pass, or Goecha La. To begin with, this isn’t a popular route, so trails aren’t maintained at places.
Due to thunderstorms and other natural corrosion trails may produce unanticipated bumps and need careful concession. After Ruinsara Tal we take the crest towards Bali Pass. The final ascent to the pass is steep and the descent is steeper on gemstone and snow/ ice.
Camping at Ruinsara Tal
As per Uttarakhand High Court order (Petition No.123/2014), one can’t chamber on alpine and subalpine meadows/ champaigns, locally called “ Bugyal. Following this order, the Timber department has abandoned the authorization of camping at the Ruinsara area starting from September 2018.
We’ll chamber at Unit Gad inside the treeline by noon which is 2 Km before Ruinsara. After lunch, we will visit Ruinsara Tal, explore the fascinating vale around, and eventually return to Unit Gad camp.
